He was born in Ankara in 1968. In 1991, he graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine with honors. Between 1991-1997, he completed his specialty education in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery. Between 1997-1998, he worked as a clinical fellow in the fields of adult cardiac surgery and heart transplantation in the Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Surgery Department in the United States.
He started working in Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery in 1998 and took an active part in the establishment of this department. He became assistant professor in 1999 and associate professor in 2003. Between 2003-2006, he served as the head of Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Selim İsbir, who received the title of Professor in 2009, served as the Chief Physician of Marmara University Hospital between April 2008 and August 2010.
He has articles and presentations published in many scientific meetings and journals in Turkey and abroad. In the field of Cardiovascular Surgery, he is especially interested in coronary artery bypass surgery, valvular surgery, heart failure surgery, surgical treatment of aortic aneurysms and endovascular repair. He is currently working at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital.
